Every night, Jonah Mills looks forward to her late shift at Robin's Diner because of one thing: seventy-nine year-old Marcus Clermont.
Since her parents' divorce and the death of his wife, they've been keeping each other company for almost a year.
So when Marcus passes away, Jonah is devastated. And to make matters worse, one of his last wishes was for his grandson Gabriel to keep Jonah company, which wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't the complete opposite of Marcus. He's rude and arrogant, and Jonah wants nothing to do with him. But Gabriel is determined to honor his grandfather's dying wish, no matter what Jonah says or does.
The more time they spend together, the more Jonah begins to see why Marcus chose to send Gabriel to her. She finds herself sharing things with him that she's never said out loud--her relief on the day her father left, her betrayal at her mother's abandonment, her growing frustration with her grade-school best friend. And not to mention her on-going writer’s block.
It isn’t until more things in her life start threatening to fall apart that Jonah realizes the inspiration––and answers––she was looking for were always right in front of her.
